Classical Music Rocks!

Today, we were lucy enough to be joined by Siobhan (a pianist) and Anthony (an opera singer) as part of Classical Music Rocks!

The first song they performed was about someone who was happy to be attending a party and meeting new people. Anthony sang the words in Italian.

Anthony told us how he needed to act as his own microphone, to make sure he could be heard over a 70 strong orchestra.

Siobhan explained how she does the job of a whole orchestra during an opera performance – as there often isn’t enough room for 70 musicians. She also explained how a piano makes sound – by pressing the key, a hammer hits a string and produces a sound.

The next song Siobhan played was called Clair de Lune composed by Claude Debussy – it was very peaceful and relaxing.

Then, the performed a Russian song that reminded the children of snow, rain, sun, waves and spring waters.

The final song they performed was about a funicular railway. It was about a train travelling up a hill and the passengers seeing something amazing. The underlying tune sounded like a train. The children were able to join in with some of the words – which were in Italian.

Siobhan and Anthony: Thank you so much for visiting Greyfriars – we had an amazing time!
