Year Six Residential 2025
In February 2025, our Year Six children went on a residential trip to Kingswood in North Norfolk. We had a wonderful time engaging in loads of different outdoor activities and making memories with our friends that will last a lifetime.
We challenged ourselves to try new things, we worked well together as a team and most importantly, we had FUN! Check out these photos to find out more about our residential trip.
On the first night, we had a lovely dinner (burgers and chips) and then we all went outside to have hot chocolate and marshmallows by the campfire. We felt like we had earned this because we’d had a long and very tough day (and that was just putting our own duvet covers on the beds without help from adults!). Before we headed off to bed, we took a lovely photo on the lawn of Overstrand Hall where we were staying.
The next morning, we woke up bright and early (a bit TOO bright and early for some of the grown-ups) and had a really lovely cooked breakfast. The camp leaders treated us to a dance-off on the front lawn of Overstrand Hall, which is not something we were used to. It certainly blew away the cobwebs though! Have you ever danced the Macarena and the Cha Cha Slide at 8.30am in temperatures of minus three? Well we have – and it was so much fun! The teachers even joined in. All the children from other schools were there too but we were definitely the loudest! Sadly, there is no photographic evidence of Mr McGovern dancing the YMCA, so you’ll just have to take our word for it!
That afternoon, we split into our different groups to complete a selection of different outdoor activities. Our favourite was ‘jungle vines’ where we had to climb up a really high pole and balance across a high wire whilst being supported by our friends. Some of us were quite nervous about this to begin with, but we had an awesome time and really smashed the goals we set ourselves, achieving more than we ever thought we could. We were really pleased to be visited by Mr Hambling, the CEO of Unity Education Trust.
Next up was den building in the woods. We had to gather all our own materials and decide, in small groups, how best to use them.
That night, we had a delicious chicken dish for dinner and worked on a scrapheap challenge with our friends. We had to design a way to protect a water balloon and prevent it from bursting when it was shot up into the air. If we were able to keep our water balloon safe, then we were allowed to burst it on our team leader’s head. Poor Lily (our team leader) had THREE water balloons burst over her head that evening!
The next morning, just before we left, we were taught how to build a fire. We had to gather our own materials and make a spark ourselves (no matches allowed). We sat round the campfires we had built and had a lovely drink before gathering all our things to go home.
On the way home, the teachers stopped at Macdonalds. We were a bit jealous, because we all fancied something to eat after our long journey. We thought they were going to buy food for themselves but they all treated us to a McFlurry, which we took back to school with us.
